International & Mirror Board Set Up =================================== Credit for the mirror board goes to Randall of XKCD. He is the real brains behind this, I just modified it to make it work with my keyboard choices and wrote a little launcher script. Usage: ------------------- Caps-Lock - Mirror key (flips the keys) Scroll-Lock - Changes to International Keyboard Keyboard works as normal with the absense of a Caps-Lock key. If you hold Caps-Lock and press another key it will print the letter in opposite/mirrored location on the keyboard. It's kind of hard to get used to but can be really useful for quick 1-handed messages on Pidgin or what not. When Scroll-Lock is press it switches to the US-International keyboard. It switch is indicated by the Scroll-Lock LED. This keyboard makes it a bit easier to make some unusual & international charaters. Such as ¡äðf鮀¼«»ßðfb©vb. Install: ------------------- 1) Create a keyboard map directory in your home folder. I use ".kbd" (if you use anything else you will have to modify map_kbd) 2) Download us-std_us-intl_mirror.xkb to your keyboard map directory. The file should be "~/.kbd/us-std_us-intl_mirror.xkb" 3) Download map_kbd to your "bin" directory. You might have to create this but BASH should try to make it part of your path automatically. 4) Open the "Sessions" in the Preferences menu. It will default ot the "Startup Programs" tab. 5) Click Add 6) Put the following values in the dialog Name : "Keyboard Mappings" Command : "map_kbd us-std_us-intl_mirror" (I type out the full path to map_kbd but it is a matter of preference) Comment : "Map the mirrored keyboard with international alternate." Optional Files: (Place these in ".kbd" as well) ------------------- - us-std_mirror : Randall's original mirrored keyboard - us-std_us-intl : Just the standard map with the international alternate.
