Margart M. Farley obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loyola Marymount University in 1980, with a dual major of History and Political Science. She thereafter obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
While attending law school, she worked full time as a law clerk preparing pleadings, conducting legal research and discovery investigations. She was also a legal advocate for the Exceptional Children's Foundation in Los Angeles, and worked with parents and legal counsel in developing information and State Regulations concerning Wills and Trusts for developmentally disabled persons.
Ms. Farley is a member of the State Bar of California, San Francisco Bar Association, Marin County Bar Association, San Mateo County Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and Phi Alpha Theta. She is also admitted to practice in the Northern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Farley began her legal career by serving as an associate with Freitas, McCarthy, Bettini, MacMahon, Freitas & Lemon which had a general practice with an emphasis in the fields of civil litigation. Ms. Farley worked on cases involving insurance defense of personal injury claims, insurance bad faith, real property litigation and probate. She also worked in the field of insurance coverage with respect to earth movement and water damage.
Ms. Farley then joined Goshkin, Pollatsek, Meredith & Lee where she was an associate practicing civil litigation centering on insurance defense, insurance bad faith, employment benefit plans and plaintiffs personal injury cases. She gained experience in both State and Federal Courts and both arbitration and trial in these matters.
Ms. Farley next worked as an associate for the Law Offices of John J. Parente. There she followed the practice of civil litigation which emphasized construction accidents. She also had exposure to workers' compensation, subrogation and matters involving ERISA.
Before founding Sampson & Farley, Ms. Farley served as an associate with the Law Firm of Laughlin, Falbo, Levy & Moresi in association with Weinberg & Hoffman. That firm involved itself in the practice of civil litigation in the fields of insurance defense of personal injury and property claims arising out of automobile accidents and out of construction accidents. She also involved herself in cases regarding insurance coverage, subrogation and workers' compensation. Thereafter, she started her own practice specializing in the defense of civil actions as Ropers & Farley in San Rafael.
Ms. Farley currently serves as a Judge Pro Tem, arbitrator and mediator for the Marin County Superior and Municipal Courts. She also serves as an arbitrator for the San Francisco Superior and Municipal Courts.
Ms. Farley is born in and raised in San Rafael, California. She is married to Raymond W. Laing and has an adorable son, Brendan.
